NUG Pledges Continued Cooperation with KIA for Myanmar's Full Liberation

The National Unity Government (NUG) has announced its commitment to continue cooperating with the allied Kachin revolutionary forces to expedite the liberation of the entire Union of Myanmar, including the Kachin region, and to establish a new nation based on federal democratic standards as swiftly as possible. This announcement was made in a letter commemorating the 49th anniversary of Kachin Martyrs Day, observed on August 10, 2024.

In the letter, the NUG expressed deep admiration and remembrance for Kachin leaders, the Kachin public, and KIO/KIA fighters who sacrificed their lives opposing the military dictatorship and working towards a federal democratic system. The NUG also conveyed pride and appreciation for the Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO) and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) for their continued unity and dedication, reaching the 49th anniversary of the Kachin Revolution.

Kachin Martyrs Day is observed annually on the day that GOC General Lahtaw Zau Seng, the founder and first leader of the KIO/KIA, was assassinated on August 10, 1975.
