NUG told Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Win Myint to be released immediately.


On 1st August, the Ministry of Justice of the National Unity Government announced that State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint should be released immediately from their respective sentences in response to the military council’s statement.


The statement stated that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Win Myint were arrested without having committed any crime, and not in line with the law.



The Ministry of Justice (NUG) said in a statement that citizens who have been unjustly arrested throughout the country, including state leaders, must be released immediately, and that the orders imposed on them are void from the beginning.


The military council announced that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who is serving 33 years in prison for 19 cases, was reduced to six years in prison for five cases. President U Win Myint, who was serving 12 years in prison for eight cases, was reduced to four years for two cases, and the prisoners in various prisons across the country to commemorate the Waso full moon day, and the release of 7,749 people, including an unknown number of political prisoners.
