One of the political prisoners who was called out for interrogation died in Thayarwati Prison
A 25-year-old political prisoner, Pyae Phyo Win, who was incarcerated in Thayarwati Prison, in Bago, died on May 21 and the family was not allowed to see his body.
The prison authorities informed the family members about the death of Ko Pyae Phyo Win, who was sentenced to seven years in prison under Penal Codes Section-505-A and Section-436, but they were not allowed to retrieve the body.
"He is also young. There is no disease at all. I can't believe he died. Another thing, if it’s honest, they will give you the body back. They did not return the body. Looking at this, I think he can't die honestly."
The prison authorities said that the family members were informed that the death of Ko Pyae Phyo Win was caused by an infection in the lungs.
According to people close to the prison, nine political prisoners from Thayarwati Prison were taken out of the prison for questioning in May, and among them was Ko Pyae Phyo Win.
Myaing Yan Community Action Committee said that there was beating and torture.
According to people close to the prison, about 20 political prisoners have been taken out for interrogation since May 25 in Bago, Dail-U, Kyaiksakaw Prison, and one of them has died.
According to the Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP) on May 29, 18,416 people have been arrested throughout the country in more than two years of the coup, and 6,107 of them have been sentenced to prison terms.
