US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Indonesian Foreign Minister Ret No Masudi met on Thursday, February 16. The statement from the US State Department stated that the Myanmar issue was discussed during the talks.


In order to resolve the Myanmar issue, Indonesia, which holds the ASEAN chairmanship, has said that it will make a significant effort to make it a nationwide political dialogue involving all stakeholders. He also said he would meet with all stakeholders to make this happen.

Anthony Blinken reaffirmed that the United States has supported Indonesia's role as the rotating chairman of ASEAN and that it will also support Indonesia's role as a permanent representative in ASEAN-US cooperation.


The US Secretary of State said the Indo-Pacific region's openness and freedom and regional progress. He also emphasized the important cooperation role of ASEAN when shaping security. The two countries foreign ministers also discussed ASEAN's priorities for 2023, including efforts to resolve the Myanmar issue and Timor Leste's application for ASEAN membership.


The statement also praised Indonesia's leadership in educating women and girls in Afghanistan.
