Ko Paing Phyo Min, a leader of the Anti-Junta Alliance Yangon (AJAY), was arrested at his home on October 9 under the pretext of overnight guest inspection. He had participated in a protest on September 19 in Yangon, demonstrating against rising commodity prices and opposing mandatory military conscription laws.
Another person arrested on the night of October 9 was former Dagon University student and activist Ko Shane Wai Aung. Along with him, his father, mother, and sister were also detained, and they have since lost contact with the outside world.
There are growing concerns about the safety of the detainees, as those arrested often face severe torture under the military junta.
