Pita Limjaroenrat urges the new Thai government to help Myanmar issue.
Pita Limjaroenrat, who won the Thai election but failed to become prime minister, urged the new Thai government to establish a humanitarian economic corridor between Myanmar and Thailand and to allow humanitarian aid for war victims in both Thailand and Myanmar.
Pita said this when a reporter asked him about the Myanmar issue while attending an international peace conference held in Washington, DC on October 30th. He also said that even if Thailand does not emphasize human rights issues, it should pay attention to the economic opportunities that will come from the Myanmar People.
In the past year, the Thai real estate market has been the third most purchased by Myanmar nationals, and doctors and educators from Myanmar have also taken refuge in Thailand. He also said that because these doctors can help Burmese war victims on the Thai border, Thailand should pay attention to them and take care of them. Pita also said that he would like to see the Thai government play a major role in the implementation of the five ASEAN common agreements on Myanmar within five years and in restoring personal freedom and peace to Myanmar People.
